Summer 2010 Makeup Trends

Christopher Drummond Beauty Summer 2010 Colors

Christopher’s Trends for Spring/Summer 2010

Shimmer:  After a long, hard winter, it is time to get whimsical.  Don’t be afraid of more shimmer than you are used to.  The key is to pick an eye shadow that is good quality with finely milled mica.  This means it will not look like glitter, but it will luminize the skin and look sophisticated and beautiful.  Cheap makeup tends to look like big clumps of glitter, instead of fine, powder-like shimmery leaflets.  You can also use a product like Saude Pele Radiance Booster to your existing shadow to add extra glow.

Coral lips:  One of my favorites.  The right coral color looks good on everyone, and is complimentary on all skin tones.  Christopher Drummond Beauty is coming out with an all natural, organic based long lasting lip stain called “Coral Reef”.  It’s the perfect blend of pink and peach, to give every woman the coral color that is so trendy this season.

Eyelashes:  Probably the biggest trend for Spring/Summer is long, lush lashes.  Option one:  Extenstions.  They last for about a month, but take maintenance.  Option two:  temporary lashes.  I love individual lashes.  They are very natural looking, and you put them where you need them.  They can last a day or two, and look great.  Option three:  Layer mascara.  Get a non-clumping mascara (I have been using Maybelline) and apply it in layers.  Usually three layers is best.  Focus on the outer corners of the eyes.

Bronzer/nude skin:  Beautiful looking skin is always in.  If you are not like Jennifer Lopez, with flawless, gorgeous skin, then fake it.  Take a product like Saude Pele Radiance Booster by CDB, and lightly dust it on your cheeks, nose and forehead.  It will impart a beautiful natural-looking glow, without looking like you have anything on.  “fake it til you make it”!!!!  apply a light-colored bronzer to give a warm glow to the skin.  The key is to lightly dust it all over the face, then use a highlighter on the cheeks.

Liner on tops of eyes only:  For summer, a big trend on the runways that we did for fashion week was heavy lashes and liner on the top, and little if any on the bottom.  This is a pretty, youthful, fresh look that works on anyone.  It also helps to open up the eyes and makes youl look more awake.  Liner tends to drag down the eyes if you use too much on the bottom.  This prevents that.

Blush:  The right blush makes a world of difference.  I’m not a fan of pink pink blush.  It’s not natural looking.  If you choose a blush with some orange and or yellow (“Alluring Apricot” for Christopher Drummond Beauty), you have an instant pick me up that livens the skin up.  You can also use it as an eye shadow……..

Academy Awards 2010: the Lashes Have it!

Stand out look at the Oscars: LASHES!

Every starlet was wearing bunches and bunches of falsies.  Lashes that is.

As Predicted, False lashes and Mascara were the star of the night at the Oscars.  Whether it was strips, partials or individual lashes, all the women were focusing on long, lush lashes on the red carpet.

Old school glam was back with a vengeance.  Think the 1940’s, but with more ethnicity.  This was one of the most racially diverse red carpets in years, thanks in part to the movies  “Precious” and “Avatar”.  Gabourey Sidibe, Mariah Carey, MoNique, Queen Latifa, Anika Noni Rose, Penolope Cruz Jennifer Lopez and Zoe Saldana were some of the glamorous beauties walking the red carpet, while adding a little bit of “color” to the ceremonies.

Whether black or white, the makeup looks were very subdued and focused more on the overall look.  The focus wasn’t on the makeup, per se, which was lovely, but very monochromatic.  Now and then, there was a “pop” of color (Like Nicole Richie’s bordering on drag queen dramatic grey/black eye combo), and Sandra Bullock’s Bordering on gaudy pink lipstick).  However, the lashes were the definite winner with the ladies, giving them a lush, glamorous, finished look.  To get more information on how to apply false lashes like the stars, go to www.christopherdrummond.com.

oscar predictions 2010: Beauty and Makeup

red-carpet-womanMy predictions for the Oscars:  What types of makeup will eveyone be wearing?  What will the trends be???  Find out here!!!

Eyes:  Of course, the smoky look will be big, it always is for the red carpet.  It is the “go to” look for celebrities when they want to look glamorous and dramatic.  However, this year, I predict the smoky look will be accented with a lot of shimmery metals:  bronze, gold, and silver.  This will be a reflection of the past year’s bad economic state, and our hopes for more “riches” in the near future…(I know, I’m getting a little in depth, but this is how trends are started and followed, right????)

Also on the eyes:  a focus on luxurious lashes, and liner focused on the top on the eyes.

Color will also be predominant on the eyes, but not heavy color.  Light whimsical shades such as pale blue, lavender and peach will all be used generously.

The skin, of course, will be a main component of the overall look for celebrities.  It’s always a pre requisite for celebrities to have glowing radiant skin, and the Oscars are certainly no exception.  Luminizers and shimmer will be used on the eyes and cheeks to help give that “healthy” look.

Lips:  There will be two looks:  Matte  bright  red or nude and glossy.  Peach lips will also be a part of the look for many.  Peach is always a great “go to” color for makeup artists.

Bristol Palin and Christopher Drummond Beauty

Taken straight from PeopleMagazine.com:

bristol Palin wearing Christopher Drummond Beauty makeupBristol Palin, the 19-year-old daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin filmed her scene on ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager this week during the mother-daughter visit to Los Angeles – then made a splash at a pre-Oscar party.                                                                                                                                                       Working on a closed set to protect her privacy, the single mom played herself Tuesday – but as the fictional friend of Shailene Woodley’s character Amy. The episode airs in June or July.
“Despite the fact that her family has been beaten up in the press for the past few years, Bristol was willing to step out of her comfort zone and try something new, and I really respect that,” the show’s creator and executive producer Brenda Hampton tells PEOPLE. “She’s a beautiful and intelligent young woman who is also really sweet.”
Palin next made a big entrance Wednesday at the Pre-Oscar Poolside Party benefiting The Red Cross Haiti & Chile Relief Fund at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons.
Looking svelte in skinny jeans, gray blazer and heels, Palin beelined for the Christopher Drummond Beauty cabana, where she got a quick touch-up with some of the brand’s organic mineral makeup.

Is Mineral Makeup Bad??? “Maybe Mineral Makeup isn’t For You!”

Mineral Makeup: Not all it claims to be?

Mineral Makeup: Not all it claims to be?

I’m ready to give up on mineral makeup — help?

Q:  Recently I’ve switched to mineral makeup, but I swear I’m ready to give up on it. I’ve been using Everyday Minerals. I’ve been trying to hard to find my shade. I’ve tried basically all of their shades but haven’t found my perfect shade. I hate how mineral makeup looks pale in pictures where the camera flashes. And after I’ve been wearing it for awhile it looks so bad, cakey almost. Do you think I should give up on mineral makeup or just switch brands to something else? Do you think mineral makeup just isn’t good for me? If not, what type of foundation should I try?

Christopher’s Answer:

Hi there.  I was sent this link and I thought I could help you out by explaining a few things.

When I worked for a mineral makeup company, a lot of people had the same complaints you did, so I decided to create my own line to help with the many issues of Mineral Makeup.  As you are stating, it is not made for everyone.

First, let me explain that the main ingredients in Mineral Makeup (Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide and Bismuth Oxychloride) are irritants to a lot of people.  These “minerals” cause itchiness, dryness and other irritation on the skin.  Many women stop wearing minerals because of the “side effects” this makeup gave them.  The problem is that the mineral makeup companies don’t tell you this.  They tell you that the products are “irritant free.”  They are not.  I can’t tell you how many women have come up to me telling me that mineral makeup breaks them out, feels itchy, and dries their skin out.  They love the idea of minerals, but don’t like the results.

Also, these three ingredients reflect light.  A LOT.  This means when you take a picture, the flash reflects against the makeup, causing you to get the horrible “pale face”.  Bronzer and “warmth” will not help the situation. they will just add darkness to a light colored complexion.

Thirdly, these three ingredients are pure white.  They make it very difficult to match your color.  Since pure white is very unforgiving on anyone with yellow in their skins, it will be almost impossible to properly match the color.

The solution?  A foundation that is free of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and bismuth oxychloride.  Christopher Drummond Beauty is free of all of these ingredients.  It is as light as air, creamy feeling, won’t make you look greasy, and has great coverage.  All of this, and it’s 100% natural, organic based and vegan, too!  (BE is not vegan, they use Carmine, which is an animal biproduct–bugs!!!!)

I’m sorry if this sounds like an advertisement.  However, I am very much into educating people about why “Mineral Makeup” is not always what it seems, and not always what they claim.

Educate yourself about these ingredients, and you’ll see that minerals may not be the way to go for you….go to our website www.christopherdrummond.com, and read what we have to offer.  Our innovative makeup is truly different, and looks like a powder, but acts like a cream.  You’ll love it!!!
