makeup brushes

Now that you’ve made the switch to eco-friendly makeup (www.christopherdrummond.com), replace your makeup brushes with ecoTOOLS. Featuring bamboo handles, taklon bristles (a synthetic filament), and ferrule constructed from recycled aluminum cans, the brushes are fantastically cheap. The powder brush is only $7.99, while the eye shadow brush will only set you back $3.99. The line has also joined forces with 1% For the Planet so that one percent of ecoTOOLS’ annual sales will be donated toward eco-initiatives. These are available at many drug stores like Walgreens, Duane Reade, or Ulta, so even if you aren’t a regular Whole Foods shopper, you can get tools that are as good for the planet as they are for your skin. They come in recyclable/reusable packaging printed with plant-based ink.

korres

KORRES NATURAL SELECTION
New York is said to be a city full of cynics, not devotees of homeopathy and feel-good philosophy—but Korres Natural Products is hoping to change that with their first U.S. store, a new flagship in the heart of Soho selling natural, yogurt-and-honey-infused products along with a healthy dose of holistic attitude. “The new store definitely draws inspiration from all things New York,” said Lena Korres, the brand’s founder. “It’s a tribute to the city’s early industrial buildings.”

That means a stark white background (which, Korres says, pays homage to the labs and pharmacies where the products were born), exposed ventilation, a mix of wood, steel, and glass, and utilitarian boxes lining the walls where the products are on display. The store, which opens tomorrow, will sell more than 500 of the company’s natural skin, hair, and sun products, with ingredients ranging from thyme and rosemary to basil, lemon, and pomegranate. “We started out of Athens’ first ever homeopathic pharmacy with a team of three and one star product—the 24-hour wild rose cream,” said Korres. “The New York flagship has been an amazing journey.”

Nordstrom Going holistic

HOLISTIC BEAUTY FOR DUMMIES

Your bags proudly announce that they’re not plastic and your light bulbs are of the compact fluorescent variety, but you have yet to embrace either trees or anything as unsexy as Dr. Bronner’s soap. Enter Nordstrom’s new Well Beauty counters, a venture meant to introduce luxury-loving customers to the world of organic and natural beauty products. The department store considers the counters a place for a crash course in holistic beauty and a smart alternative to sometimes-overwhelming health stores, according to Nordstrom’s beauty director, Debbi Hartley. “What’s key for the products we chose for Nordstrom is that they are paraben and petrochemical free,” she said. “Both are synthetic preservatives that may cause irritation to your skin, so anything in the Well Beauty shop is free of these two elements.” The product roster includes items from CARE by Stella McCartney, Origins, and Korres Natural Products, all sold in recyclable packaging. There will also be a full-time staff member trained in the ins and outs of green beauty to help customers sort through confusing information. Call it one small step for the planet, one giant step for your complexion

American ‘Ageism’

BINOCHE SLAMS AMERICAN ‘AGEISM’

French actress JULIETTE BINOCHE has criticised the American concept of beauty insisting people in the U.S. only value “youth and big breasts”.
The Oscar winner, 44, is convinced older women are more accepted in her native France, whereas in America, most females over the age of 40 are not considered beautiful.
And the star is horrified by the number of actresses undergoing cosmetic surgery in a bid to keep their youthful looks.
She says, “Personally I’ve always thought French women bloom at 40 and for me it’s completely true. In France, beauty is much more subtle – and there is a greater acceptance of age.
“Whereas in America, they think youth and big breasts define beauty. We think it’s more about looking after yourself than going down the artificial route.
“Botox (wrinkle freezing injections) makes people look older. You look at women who have had it, you see the fear of ageing on their face.”

Do you need eye cream

I constantly get asked about eye cream. “Do I need it?” “Why?”
The answer is no. It’s a sales technique, pure and simple. There is no difference between eye cream and face cream. There is very little difference between the skin on the face and under the eyes. If you look at the skin throught a microscope and compare the face and under the eye, it’s almost impossible to tell the difference!

Eye creams are virtually the same formulation as face cream. Period. So save your money and send me a present, instead!!!!!
