Age Appropriate Makeup: Miley Cirus

Miley Cirus must have finally fired her makeup artist. Look at the difference makeup can make (oh, and a good makeup artist). A good artist can make a person look healthy, fresh, young and beautiful. A bad one can make you look like, well, you get the picture.

Let’s hope Miley and her MUA keep up the good work…natural and fresh is the way to go!!

U*tique Shop, the a luxury beauty product machine that recently hit the market.

While the company has plans to launch the upscale shopping device worldwide, they’ve just unveiled the first one at Fred Segal in Santa Monica. Playing up the interactive factor of a touch-screen surface sans salesperson, the colorful machine uses a lighted display to appeal to your inner geek girl. How to Become a makeup Artist

Here is my advice to a friend on becoming a makeup artist

ME:
I always tell people that makeup classes are a waste of time. Especially if you are really into makeup and already know some things.
I know MAC has PRO classes, and I think this would be good.
Otherwise, I don’t know of any companies that are worth the money

Friend:
Yes! the class was a very big waste of time. And it’s so funny you said something about MAC Pro. My niece was just telling me about that last night. I sent off my appl. this morning. LOL! I’m in Houston, TX and I was noticing that there wasn’t a Pro store local. Do you think they will still have local education? The closest Pro Store is Dallas and San Antonio, TX. Well I hope there will be.
I’m thinking of taking an airbrush makeup course in Dallas, TX. I’m hoping that’s not a waste of money & not just time.

Me:
Not to burst your bubble, but I wouldn’t take an airbrush class. There is such little need for it. It is best that you get your technique and artistry cultivated before taking airbrushing. I have been in this industry 15 years, and I have never had to use an airbrush.

Sure, it comes in handy for body painting, but when are you going to body paint? And if you do, will you do it often? Not likely.

Again, you should just focus on your work with brushes and colors. Experiment on friends and really get your “style” down. Find out what priducts you like. Get pictures taken for your book. These are all much more important than airbrushing.

Hell, I’d even say spend the money on the airbrush class and buy some quality professional makeup and a case and invest your money in a much more productive way!!!!!

The 80’s are Coming

For a while now, an unfortunate thing has been happening: the 80’s have been trying to make a comeback. I know, I know, it’s scary.

Here’s some proof: Nars did makeup for a recent Marc Jacobs show and all the models had an 80’s inspired look.

Nars and Jacobs just lost some cool points….

Becoming a Makeup Artist

Q:
Chris I’m so disappointed. Went to a makeup class thinking I would learn something new… NOPE! NOT! A THING! It is really hard to find a very professional makeup course on application.. Where do you suggest I look? I’m in the Houston, TX area.

I know MAC has PRO classes, and I think this would be good.
