Sarah Jessica Parker: Eeeew.

Okay. What is this look all about? I wish I could give a tutorial on “how to get this look”; however, I don’t think anyone wants this look. She obviously was NOT in the mood to go out, and hubby dragged her kicking and screaming (hence, the totally undone hair and messy makeup job).

If you’re going to be a style icon, you gotta do it all the time!!!!

Olivia Palermo

I have a slight obsession with Olivia Palermo from “The City”. I don’t know why. She was at the big bash last night in these amazing platforms…

Also, her makeup looked nice, but I could have done it better!!! Olivia, have your people call my people to get us a meeting. You need a new makeup artist!!! (wink, wink).

Matthew Williamson/HM Launch Party

I went to the Matthew Williamson H&M launch last night (after doing makeup for someone). What fun!!! No expense was spared. It was on a beautiful ship, Grace Jones was there (among other celebs), and it was great!!!

Alfalfa Sprout Warning

This has nothing to do with makeup…but thought I’d post it:

Avoid Raw Alfalfa Sprouts, FDA Says
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control Sunday urged consumers to avoid eating raw alfalfa sprouts, including sprout blends that may contain alfalfa sprouts, until further notice because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. Other sprouts have not yet been implicated. The agencies reported that 31 people in six states–Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, and West Virginia—have fallen ill since mid-March after eating alfalfa sprouts

Tips For Aspiring Makeup Artists

I am on a photo shoot right now, and I just wanted to write some musings about what you need to do to be a successful makeup artist.

I was talking to a celebrity client of mine (no, I’m not going to name drop)…However, she was telling me about a recent makeup job she received for a magazine in Europe. She was telling me how the artist was talking incessently. She said it seemed like “nervous chatter”. It was first thing in the morning, and she wanted peace and quite, but the guy just wouldn’t stop talking. Worse yet, he was rambling about nothing of interest. She said it was incredibly irritating, and that she would never use him again.

This brings me to my main point: a lot of being a makeup artist has to do with being a “people person”. The person needs to feel comfortable with you. They need to feel a connection. They don’t want to talk too much or be talked to a lot. Of course, this all depends on the person. You need to get a feel for the person, and what they are like, and what the comfort level is.

If they like you, they will like your makeup. If they don’t like you, they will hate your makeup. It’s that simple.

So listen to what your client is saying. Don’t ramble and focus on the subject at hand: making the person feel comfortable and beautiful. If you do this, I promise, they will call you again!!!
