Is Mineral Makeup Bad??? “Maybe Mineral Makeup isn’t For You!”

Mineral Makeup: Not all it claims to be?

Mineral Makeup: Not all it claims to be?

I’m ready to give up on mineral makeup — help?

Q:  Recently I’ve switched to mineral makeup, but I swear I’m ready to give up on it. I’ve been using Everyday Minerals. I’ve been trying to hard to find my shade. I’ve tried basically all of their shades but haven’t found my perfect shade. I hate how mineral makeup looks pale in pictures where the camera flashes. And after I’ve been wearing it for awhile it looks so bad, cakey almost. Do you think I should give up on mineral makeup or just switch brands to something else? Do you think mineral makeup just isn’t good for me? If not, what type of foundation should I try?

Christopher’s Answer:

Hi there.  I was sent this link and I thought I could help you out by explaining a few things.

When I worked for a mineral makeup company, a lot of people had the same complaints you did, so I decided to create my own line to help with the many issues of Mineral Makeup.  As you are stating, it is not made for everyone.

First, let me explain that the main ingredients in Mineral Makeup (Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide and Bismuth Oxychloride) are irritants to a lot of people.  These “minerals” cause itchiness, dryness and other irritation on the skin.  Many women stop wearing minerals because of the “side effects” this makeup gave them.  The problem is that the mineral makeup companies don’t tell you this.  They tell you that the products are “irritant free.”  They are not.  I can’t tell you how many women have come up to me telling me that mineral makeup breaks them out, feels itchy, and dries their skin out.  They love the idea of minerals, but don’t like the results.

Also, these three ingredients reflect light.  A LOT.  This means when you take a picture, the flash reflects against the makeup, causing you to get the horrible “pale face”.  Bronzer and “warmth” will not help the situation. they will just add darkness to a light colored complexion.

Thirdly, these three ingredients are pure white.  They make it very difficult to match your color.  Since pure white is very unforgiving on anyone with yellow in their skins, it will be almost impossible to properly match the color.

The solution?  A foundation that is free of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and bismuth oxychloride.  Christopher Drummond Beauty is free of all of these ingredients.  It is as light as air, creamy feeling, won’t make you look greasy, and has great coverage.  All of this, and it’s 100% natural, organic based and vegan, too!  (BE is not vegan, they use Carmine, which is an animal biproduct–bugs!!!!)

I’m sorry if this sounds like an advertisement.  However, I am very much into educating people about why “Mineral Makeup” is not always what it seems, and not always what they claim.

Educate yourself about these ingredients, and you’ll see that minerals may not be the way to go for you….go to our website www.christopherdrummond.com, and read what we have to offer.  Our innovative makeup is truly different, and looks like a powder, but acts like a cream.  You’ll love it!!!

Fall Makeup Trend: Ready, Set, GLOW!

Alexander Wang Fall 2010

Badgley-Mischka Fall 2010

Badgley-Mischka Fall 2010

A big trend on the runways at Fashion Week Fall 2010 is makeup that is glowing, shimmery and radiant on the skin.  Yes, skin is in!  And what better way to make your skin look glowing than a little bit of radiance, compliments of your favorite makeup company!!!

To get this healthy look, be sure not to use too much foundation and concealer.  This will make your skin look cakey and dry.  To give the opposite efect, lightly dab Christopher Drummond BEauty’s Natural Concealer where needed (use with a damp sponge or brush).  This will even out the skintone.  Next, dust Veludo Velvet foundation over the entire face and neck.  This is step one of giving your skin that healthy glow.

The major weapon in your arsenal will be your Saude Pele Radiance Booster.  Lightly apply this miracle cream/powder to your cheekbones, eyes, forehead and chin.  It will impart a beautiful radiance without caking up and looking “made up”.  Follow with a dab of your favorite blush.

Remember, the focus is on your gorgeous skin, so don’t use to much color anywhere else on the face!   www.christopherdrummond.com

DVF Fall 2010: The new Smoky Eye

dvf-backstage36Diane von Furstenberg’s inspiration was a woman evolving “like a butterfly,” layered lids and undereyes with a black cream shadow, added shades of blue and green powder over the top, and gave the inner corners a little sparkle. The result is multidimensional eye makeup that looks a little different from each angle—a vision we can all embrace.

Get the look with CDB:  Start with CDB natural concealer all over the lid.  Then take Feline eye shadow all over the whole lid, from lash to brown.  Next, take Mystique shadow, and add it on the eyelid from the crease to the lashes.  Take the Cream to Powder cream liner in Black and smudge it on the bottom lashes, as well as the top lashes (be sure to add a lot for this look).  Finally, take Relache Ice shadow, and add it to the corners of the inner eyes.  Use your mascara of choice, or use the cream to powder liner as a mascara.

After seeing Imogen Morris Clarke’s striking hazel eyes on the runway, I couldn’t wait to recreate her eye-enhancing makeup look. The smoky brown and plum on the outer edges mixed with an inner-eye shimmer is mesmerizing.

Get the Look with CDB:

  • Start with a primer all over the lid of the eye
  • Take Gold from CDB and dust it all over the whole eye
  • Place CDB’s Brown Shadow on the bottom half of the upper lid.  Make sure you apply enough to get good saturation.
  • On the outer corner of the eye, take ‘Mystique” from CDB and blend it very well  on the outer third of the lid, and along the eye lashes
  • Take our “Plum” eye liner and smudge it on the lower lashline.  Then, top it with the brown color, focusing the brown on the outer corner.
  • Finally take more of the “Gold” shadow, and focus it on the inner corner.
