Mineral Makeup: Not all it claims to be?
I’m ready to give up on mineral makeup — help?
Q: Recently I’ve switched to mineral makeup, but I swear I’m ready to give up on it. I’ve been using Everyday Minerals. I’ve been trying to hard to find my shade. I’ve tried basically all of their shades but haven’t found my perfect shade. I hate how mineral makeup looks pale in pictures where the camera flashes. And after I’ve been wearing it for awhile it looks so bad, cakey almost. Do you think I should give up on mineral makeup or just switch brands to something else? Do you think mineral makeup just isn’t good for me? If not, what type of foundation should I try?

Hi there. I was sent this link and I thought I could help you out by explaining a few things.
When I worked for a mineral makeup company, a lot of people had the same complaints you did, so I decided to create my own line to help with the many issues of Mineral Makeup. As you are stating, it is not made for everyone.
First, let me explain that the main ingredients in Mineral Makeup (Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide and Bismuth Oxychloride) are irritants to a lot of people. These “minerals” cause itchiness, dryness and other irritation on the skin. Many women stop wearing minerals because of the “side effects” this makeup gave them. The problem is that the mineral makeup companies don’t tell you this. They tell you that the products are “irritant free.” They are not. I can’t tell you how many women have come up to me telling me that mineral makeup breaks them out, feels itchy, and dries their skin out. They love the idea of minerals, but don’t like the results.
Also, these three ingredients reflect light. A LOT. This means when you take a picture, the flash reflects against the makeup, causing you to get the horrible “pale face”. Bronzer and “warmth” will not help the situation. they will just add darkness to a light colored complexion.
Thirdly, these three ingredients are pure white. They make it very difficult to match your color. Since pure white is very unforgiving on anyone with yellow in their skins, it will be almost impossible to properly match the color.
The solution? A foundation that is free of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and bismuth oxychloride. Christopher Drummond Beauty is free of all of these ingredients.
